Our real place in the World?

I cannot believe people are surprised what is happening these days. The Icelandic volcano ‘Eyjafjallajökull’ has erupted and the World is collapsing. I am not overly surprised as same is happening almost every time the Nature shows its power. This is just perfect example how much the world has developed and on the other side, how fragile the world actually is.

And when the fume disperse (flood water subside and quakes cease) we wake up next morning and we believe again how powerful we are and that we can change the winds and rain. It only shows how foolish we humans are.

But let’s start from the beginning… It is fascinating to see how the World actually functions, especially these past few days. Today, everybody knows that fresh flowers across the Europe are imported from Kenya and not from Dutch greenhouses (anymore), or that the BMW branch in the US has limited its production because they cannot supply new parts from Europe.

No cherries will be brought from South America, lobsters from Canada or tuna from Sri Lanka. Supply of medication will be delayed so as Apple iPhones that are assembled in China and shipped by air…

The world has evolved and so did people… We have no boundaries and our arrogance and our spoilliness has no limits. We have built ourselves a modern Babylon Tower, and a single volcano has paralyzed us.

Our ancestors did respect the Nature and were afraid something bad will happen. But today, it is the other way around. Today we are changing the river flows, irrigating deserts, and we have wrapped our World in the electronic impulses and data. We have created Gods only to repudiate them again. Today, we can create lakes, change the weather and we think, once we destroy our Nature we will simply create new one by clone. We are the Gods and we control everything.

In reality, it is the other way around. The Nature controls us – humans, and every new catastrophe reminds us of this. The Nature still has its power; new floods, tsunamis, earthquakes or avalanche. People always forget where our place in the world is. One would even say that we need these catastrophes from time to time – this cruel Nature’s violence to safe us from our blindness and ignorance.
