Coconut Recipes
Coconut is the fruit of the coconut palm (Cocos Nucifera). The origin of coconut plant is unknown. Most claims the home of the coconut is South Asia, while others claim South America. Regardless of its origin, the coconut has spread across much of the tropics, probably aided in many cases by sea-faring peoples, and become very popular in cooking as part of coconut recipes. The fruit is light and buoyant and presumably spread significant distances by marine currents. Some coconuts have been collected from the sea as far as Norway.
The coconut palm thrives on sandy soils and is highly tolerant of salinity. For optimum growth, coconuts need high humidity and prefer warm areas with abundant sunlight and regular rainfall, like shorelines of the tropics.
Botanically, a coconut is a simple dry nut known as a fibrous drupe. It is not fruit. The shell of the coconut has three pores that are clearly visible on the outside surface of the shell. Adhering to the inside wall of the shell is “the coconut meat”, the white and fleshy edible part of the seed.
Home Entertainment
A house, where the flames in the open fireplace in the bedroom react to command of a remote control, where the lights, blinds and air-condition are all controlled electronically by touch of a button and a home entertainment room to watch all the big sporting events, playing games and watching cartoons with kids or snuggling with glass of wine while watching the latest romantic comedies. That is a kind of house I have always dreamed of.
Days, when the only home entertainment system available was a wooden box radio with a cloth covered speaker filled with tubes and crystals are history. Loudspeakers with an elegant design and powerful sound performance standing on its aluminium foot or hanging directly on the wall connected to the highest resolution HD Television with the best possible picture quality maintaining a balance between pure technology and art, dominate these days.
My dream is a home theatre like these Precision Electronics Systems home theater Fort Worth systems that offers the best audio video components available today. Speakers, custom built into your wall, affordable sets designed and built for your office or family. A collection of sophisticated electronic gadgets, that together gives an amazing combination of great visual and sound.
Starbucks, Ballsbridge
Starbucks…. Who doesn’t know this American coffeehouse chain and the largest coffeehouse company in the world? They have stores across the whole world, and of course, here in Dublin too. One of the stores is based in Ballsbridge and it is the one where I go to during my lunch break.
I don’t think that they do the best coffee. But honestly, it is not bad either. I usually got my cappuccino or hot chocolate there after my lunch, and some time their pastry or cake. The Berry Swirl is my favourite. What I really like about Starbucks is that they seem to care about our environment and support the third world countries. And they also care about our healthy diet, as all of their stores here in Dublin have selection of sandwiches, salads and fruit smoothies to choose from.
As this particular store is located in Ballsbridge, one of the Dublin’s finest districts, you may be lucky and see some famous people around. I have seen Louise Walsh around, and the other day Dublin born Hollywood star Colin Farrell came for a cup of coffee while I was enjoying my coffee there too.
New Smoothie Franchise in Dublin
Robeks Corporation, a premium fruit smoothie and healthy eats national franchisor, opens its first international store in Dublin. The new store is situated at 9A Lord Edward St., just two blocks from the medieval citadel, Dublin Castle, site of countless historical invasions and storied ghostly souls wandering the neighborhood.
It is a 400 square-foot “high-street” store, that serves a menu similar to Robeks’ U.S. stores including premium, made-to-order smoothies, wraps/salads, wheatgrass and power muffins, with the added difference of scones and hot green tea, along with pure 100 percent juices, that appeal to the local palate.
Robeks is passionate about helping people maintain healthier lifestyles by serving a great-tasting selection of premium, made-to-order fruit smoothies, squeezed-fresh juices and snacks, plus sandwiches/wraps, salads and frozen yogurt (in most locations).
