Like a lot of people I bought a timeshare because it would allow me to take a decent vacation every year without having to spend a fortune to do so. On top that it would also force me to take a vacation since I had one week every year to use it. However over time I decide for many reasons that I just didn’t want it anymore and decide to get rid of it.
However what you’ll learn in this article is that it’s not as easy as you will see. So in this article I’m going to show you 3 ways you can try to get rid of your timeshare once and for all and how you should not sell your timeshare.
Where Not To Sell Your Timeshare
First off, the one biggest mistake I see many timeshare owners make when trying to sell is that they sign up for with a timeshare resale company such as Timeshares Only. The reason I know these companies are a waste of your money is because I’ve spent far to much to know that they are not worth it. In fact, I’ve spent over $1100 and have not seen even one lead in the two years I was working with these companies.
So to make a long story short avoid these companies like the plague and you will be much better off.
3 Places To Sell Your Timeshare
eBay. One of the first places to consider selling you timeshare is with eBay. The great thing about eBay is that it has a huge user base and tons of people looking to buy and sell. On top of that the fees are fairly minimal unlike the resale companies I just talked about.
However their may be some fees when it comes to selling your timeshare such as closing fees and such, but you may get a much better price for your week by going this route. To get started hop on eBay see if their are any listings for your resort their and see what others are asking for theirs. On top that you may also want to consider the eBay Sellers Guide getting rid of your timeshare.
Buy Back Option. The Second way to consider is a buyback option. This is were you contact the resort and ask them if they would be willing to buy back your timeshare. Now not all resorts will be willing to do this but some will, in fact this is how I was able to sell my resort.
The down side to this option is that most resorts will not pay you much for them. In my case I was only able to get around 10 cents on the dollar for my week, but I was happy to get rid of it so I didn’t have to deal with the maintenance fees and all the hassles anymore.
Donate. The final option to consider is to donate your timeshare. The great thing about this option is that by donating it will allow to get rid of it once an for all, but not all charities are willing to buy your timeshare. In fact, most charities will not buy your timeshare if you still have a loan on it.
On top of that just because you have your loan paid off doesn’t mean a charity will accept your timeshare. The reason behind this is because most charities want to sell your timeshare to make a profit for their organization and if they can’t they won’t want it.
To get started on how to donate a timeshare to charity check out Donate For A Cause and they will be able to review your timeshare and see if it’s something they would be willing to accept.
Final Thoughts…
As a final thought know that even with all three of these options it still make may take some time to sell your timeshare. In fact it took me around 5 years to get rid of mine. However with a persistent attitude and a little bit of time you will sell it. So follow the advice in this article and you will be just fine.
