First Time Snowboarding

Last night Maja and myself have decided to go snowboarding to Jesenik mountains. We drove to Olomouc early this morning to board the Ski Bus going directly to Karlov, the ski resort in the Jesenik mountains. Ski Centre Karlov is one of the biggest and busiest ski centres in the Jesenik mountains. Usually the winter here last longer than anywhere else, with great snow conditions makes Karlov Ski Centre very popular resort for all winter activities.

There are 11 ski slopes in the area, each with the ski tows and snow cannons guaranteeing the snow all the time. All the slopes are very well maintained, some of them flood lighted for the night skiing too. The slopes are suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to advance skiers / snowboardists. There are parking areas, restaurants and accommodation available near to all slopes in the area.

There is a ski/snowboard school and hire shop right next to one of the slope, exactly what we were looking for, as this is our first time on snowboard. I am not good at skiing at all, and I am very keen to try snowboard this time. I think, snowboard will be right for me. Two hours of face to face snowboard lesson with one of the trainers proved to be very useful. It was great. I enjoyed every single minute, and at the end of the lesson, I was able to go downhill without falling. At that time I knew I will love snowboard forever. It was an unforgettable experience and I cannot wait to do it again.

Even thought we were thinking of 4 hour lesson at the beginning, the 2 hour lesson was enough. Tired and exhausted we board the Ski Bus going back to Olomouc. Happy and deligted.

We left rainy Dublin this morning at 9:45, and we are back home in Czech republic. It has been only a month and a half since we were home the last time, but we are excited and delighted to be home again. Ten days holiday ahead of us, skiing and ice-skating is just a small part of our plan. There is a very little snow here, but up in the mountains it is better. It is going to be busy over these ten days, but I am looking forward to it.

The Christmas day is finally here. Here in Dublin the Christmas Day is the 25th, but back home we celebrate the Christmas Day on 24th. And so we will today. After a half day at work, we have 10 days off and we are keen to get out of rainy Ireland. We were looking for the winter sun holidays, but all the last minute deals are gone or insanely expensive. So this morning, we have bought two return tickets to Prague and we are going home. Hopefully we will go skiing and ice skating as the weather back home is promising. I can’t wait.

For the last two weeks, the Christmas atmosphere has spread all around, and I have finally realize, the Christmas Day is almost here. There has been a Christmas decoration in the shop windows since middle November, but it still didn’t feel like Christmas to me until now. I don’t know if this is because we put on the Christmas decoration in our apartment, the Christmas tree and that my wife has made those fabulous homemade Christmas cookies I love, since I was a little boy. The smell of the gingerbread cookies is the smell of the Christmas to me. The Christmas is here.

If there was a justice in this world, then tonight the justice has been served. The widely awaited final of the 2008 X Factor competition has its winner, the 20-year old Alexandra Burke. As the most consisted of all the contestants throughout the whole competition (and one that I have predicted to win just after her first appearance at audition), she was the one deserved to win.

She is an amazing singer with such a beautiful and powerful voice. I have never seen such a talent ever before. She has delivered one amazing performance after another on weekly basis, leaving the judges speechless. Every single week, she was far the best, and tonight duet with Beyonce, has just proved how great singer Alexandra is. I am delighted she has won. Alexandra’s debut single “Hallelujah” will be released midnight tonight to purchase.

I have to say this year competition has been the best so far. Well done to all finalist, and once again CONGRATULATION to Alexandra Burke, the 2008 X Factor winner.
