Seal Hunt

This year annual seal hunt in Canada has started at the end of March. This year’s limit has been set for 275,000 harp seals. The efforts from people around the world to end the commercial seal hunt in Canada, has reach a critical mass.

Canada’s East Coast seal hunt is the largest marine mammal hunt in the world, with an average annual kill of about 300,000 harp seals. The humane society has campaigned against the industry for the last several years, taking its fight to the major European capitals that could inflict a serious blow to the business.

Members from 27 European Union countries sat down to plead their case as the controversial hunt continues. The European Commission is awaiting a second report on seal hunts before making its recommendation a wholesale ban to the European Parliament this summer.

An earlier report found that while it is theoretically possible to kill seals rapidly and without causing avoidable pain, there is strong evidence that effective killing does not always happen in practice.

The major markets for seal skin are Russia and China. Belgium and the Netherlands have already approved legislation prohibiting the sale of seal products. Germany, Italy and Austria are drafting similar legislation, putting pressure on the European Commission to recommend a union wide ban. While EU countries are not the biggest importers of seal products, they serve as a critical shipment and manufacturing point to the larger markets of Norway, Russia and China.

Paris – a city famous for its architecture, food, wine, street markets and galleries, and of course The Eiffel Tower. It is one of the cities, that has honour to be called a city of love. And it is one of the cities I love most.

Traveling around Paris is relatively easy for visitors as well as locals. The Metro underground system is easy to understand, efficient and reaches everywhere even the most enthusiastic tourist would want to visit.

It wouldn’t be possible to visit Paris without climbing to the top of the world famous Eiffel Tower. The tower is a symbol of Paris and it is a good landmark to not get lost. Illuminated at the night, it dominates the city’s skyline.

Champs Elysees is another must see in Paris. It is the main vein of the city, home of the famous designer label shops and the best restaurants. It is an ‘up-market’ area that attracts thousands of tourists every year.

Paris is also home to the famous Louvre Museum, that houses over three hundred thousand exhibits, but not all of them are ever on display. It is really easy to spend hours at Louvre, absorbed by all the famous paintings and statutes including the Venus de Milo and of course Mona Lisa.

What makes Paris special is the number of artists that have been attracted to this great city. Napoleon’s Arc de Triomphe on Champs Elysees, another Paris landmark with the names of his generals engraved upon to honor them and his troops. It also features an observatory to take in surrounding views.

Paris has a variety of places to which is impossible to list all here. Many of these places shouldn’t be missed. No wonder that people coming to Paris for just couple of days quickly realize that they would need a few more days to see all the great and famous places there.  And that is a good reason to come back to this amazing city.

I Will Resign

I have found this here, while browsing the net today.

I Will Resign – Bertie Ahern
(based on melody “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor)

First I was afraid
I was petrified
Kept thinking Mahon would find out
About my takings on the side
And I spent so many nights
Thinking how I got it wrong
But I grew strong
When I learned how to play along
But then the banks
Those fecking guys
They went and showed the jaysis court
That I got cash from the UK
I shouldn’t have lodged that bloody sterling
I could’ve spent it on me holidays
If I had known for just one second
All the questions it would raise
So off I go, I’ll walk out the door
I’ll go to ground now
‘Cause I’m not welcome anymore
Weren’t you the ones who said it’s time to say goodbye?
Health service crumbled
Property market died
Oh no! Now I
I will resign
Now the sh*it has hit the fan
And the country’s in decline
I’ve done my share of theft
And no credibility left
So I’ll resign
I will resign
It took all the guile I had
To look the injured part
Keep trying to pretend
The public broke my heart
And I spend oh so many nights
Just looking sorry for myself
But I’m good at lyin’
Inside I’m laughing all the time
And you’ll soon see me
Somebody new
I’ll get my government pension
Hey I’m not done with screwing you
I know how to milk the state
I learned all yer tricks, Haughey
Now I’m saving all my backhanders
For an island off Kerry
Ho ho! Now I
I will resign
And I’ll get three hundred grand
Instead of doing any time
I’ve got an easy life to live
Two f*cks I couldn’t give
About your cryin’
When I resign…
